How to get the most out of your test drive
Ever wondered what you should actually be looking out for during a test drive?
Test driving a car is an extremely important step in the car buying process but it’s easy to overlook things when you’re in the moment. Test driving your potential new car is the best way to find out whether or not it’s right for you. We have some handy tips to help you get the most out of your next test drive.
1. Take your time
Buying a car is a huge decision, so it’s important to make sure you’re happy before jumping into a purchase. We would suggest taking at least half an hour for a test drive and to make sure you drive on as many different roads as you can. At SERE Motors we pride ourselves on our customer service and ensure our sales team create a pressure free environment for you to find the car right for you
2. Make sure you’re comfortable
Don’t feel the first thing you should do is to start the engine. Spend a few minutes getting comfortable, adjusting mirrors etc. and getting used the controls before you set off. Can you get in out of the car easily? Is the seat adjustable? Taking your time will not only make the drive itself a more realistic experience but it will give a good idea early on of whether or not this is the car for you.
3. Think about your lifestyle
Not only should you be testing the condition of the car but you’re also assessing how usable the car will be for you. You should try to drive as you normally would to get a good feel for the car. For example, if you have children or regularly carry passengers, take them with you. Try to focus on the smaller features of the vehicle, how they might affect you in day-to-day use. This could things like the storage, cup holders, and the boot. Will they be convenient? Not paying attention to these details could lead to a bigger annoyance further down the road.
4. Try some manoeuvres
To get a real feel for how the car will handle you should try out a few manoeuvres. Test out the brakes, do a hill start and drive round a view roundabouts. Take several corners to see how the vehicle handles abruptly changing direction. Drive on different roads and surfaces, in the city and on the motorway if possible. Take the time to see how easy it is to park and to test out the visibility.
5. Ask questions
The sales person is there to help so it is important to ask as many questions as possible. Being thorough will ensure you get the right car for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for a second test drive if you still need some time to think it over. Buying a car is a big financial commitment so it’s important that you know everything can before you buy.
At SERE, our company ethos is entirely customer-focused. We pride ourselves on supplying high-quality, great value cars in a relaxed and pressure-free environment so don’t hesitate to get in touch with us today about booking a test drive on 028 9020 5100
