Stanley Says - Paint the Town Pink
With October being the worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all of us here at SERE wanted to try our very best to raise as much money as possible for Northern Ireland’s leading, local, cancer charity, Action Cancer.
The charity’s Paint The Town Pink (#PTTP) campaign encourages fundraising initiatives to help raise money for their breast screening services which are completely free for women aged 40 – 49 and those aged 70+ who are outside the NHS screening age range.
The charity does incredible life-saving work and as it’s such a fantastic cause that’s close to a lot of staff here at SERE, we wanted to get involved and show our support so decided to hold a Wear it Pink day today.
All of our staff, across all 3 of our locations in Belfast, Lisburn and Carrickfergus got involved by wearing something pink and donated money towards Action Cancer and I was very proud to see all staff join in to help fundraise.
Action Cancer need to raise £3.5million each year and receive absolutely no government funding for the free service that they provide. With one breast-screening costing £80 in the UK, they rely heavily on fundraising support and donations from the people of Northern Ireland.
Last year, the charity screened 10,787 women for breast cancer at their clinic in Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland on their ‘Big Bus’ which offered on the road breast screening and health checks. You can book an appointment for a breast screening, health check or support service online at actioncancer.org/appointments or by calling 028 9080 3344.
Action Cancer accept donations all throughout the year, so there’s always time to get involved, for more information visit actioncancer.org
