Top tips to help you pull this season!
Thinking of going on a caravanning holiday this summer? Read our helpful blog to find out a little more about what to look out for before you hook up and drive away.
It’s that time of year again where the holiday season is fast approaching and many of us have plans to hitch up the caravan and get away for a half-term mini-break or Summer vacation!
Before you start planning those long weekend escapes and definitely BEFORE you buy your caravan, it’s essential to check whether or not you and your car can actually tow…. otherwise you could land yourself in a lot of trouble.
Check your license!
First up, doublecheck your driving license to make sure you can legally tow. There’s no specific towing license but depending on how much you wish to tow, you may need an extra category driving test.

What is your car towing capacity?
Many people make the mistake of using a smaller car to tow a greater load and this can put a massive strain on the cars vital components. It risks the safety of your vehicle and can land you a hefty fine and penalty points.
To find out the maximum load capacity your vehicle can tow (car+caravan/trailer+contents), refer to your owner’s handbook or contact your dealer. The weight of your caravan should never be greater than the weight of your car!
Speed limits vary when you’re towing a car, it’s 50mph on single carriageway roads or 60mph on dual carriages and motorways. Allow extra space when turning corners and NEVER carry passengers in the caravan whilst you’re towing it.
