This is the question most people start with, and the honest answer is: probably yes. Alloy damage ranges from light scuffs and kerb grazes to deep gouges, flaking lacquer, and corrosion - and in most cases, refurbishment can address all of it. As a rough guide:

• Light scuffs and kerb damage: ideal candidates for refurbishment. This is exactly what the process is designed for.
• Deeper gouges or chips: still very much repairable. Our technicians will confirm this during the enquiry process.
• Corrosion or flaking lacquer: common on older wheels, and very effectively treated through the refurbishment process.
• Severe structural damage or cracks: in these cases, safety comes first. We'll assess the wheel and advise honestly if refurbishment isn't the right option.

WHICH TYPE OF REFINISHING DO I NEED?

There are two distinct types of alloy finish, and understanding which one you have will determine the right approach.

If your wheels are a solid colour (typically silver, grey, black, or a custom colour) they're painted or powder-coated alloys. For these, our standard refinishing process is the right choice. The wheel is stripped back, any damage is repaired, and it's repainted and lacquered to match the original colour and finish. The result is a wheel that looks as good as new.

Diamond cut wheels are recognisable by their distinctive bright, layered, reflective face - a machined aluminium surface that catches the light differently to a standard painted wheel. Many modern factory alloys have this finish, and it's one of the most popular wheel styles on the road today.

Restoring a diamond cut wheel requires more than paint. The original finish is created by a precision lathe that machines away a fine layer of the wheel's surface to reveal the bare aluminium beneath, which is then sealed with a clear lacquer. To restore that finish properly, the same process has to be repeated, and that requires specialist equipment which we have in our workshop.

At Bodytech, we use machinery from DCR Systems, who are widely regarded as the industry standard for diamond cut wheel refurbishment technology. Their lathes allow our technicians to re-cut the wheel face with exceptional accuracy, replicating the original factory profile rather than approximating it. A protective clear lacquer is then applied to finish and seal the surface.

Tips to keep your refurbished wheels looking their best:

• Wait before washing. After collection, avoid washing the wheels for at least a week to allow the lacquer to fully cure.
• Use a pH-neutral wheel cleaner. Avoid acidic or alkaline wheel cleaners, which can attack the lacquer over time. A pH-neutral product is safer for the finish.
• Avoid jet washing at close range. High-pressure washing directed directly at the wheel surface can stress the lacquer, particularly on diamond cut finishes. Keep a reasonable distance.
• Clean regularly. Brake dust is corrosive. Regular cleaning (ideally every 1-2 weeks) prevents it from bonding to the surface and causing damage over time.
• Avoid harsh road salt exposure where possible. In winter, rinsing your wheels after driving on heavily salted roads will help protect the finish.
