Some of the tech in your car gets used every single drive. Some of it's been sitting there since the day you picked the car up, completely untouched. Worth a look at which camp yours falls into.

The stuff everyone already loves

Bluetooth is the obvious one. Plug your phone in once, and from then on it just works, calls, music, the lot. Reversing cameras are the same story, switch the car into reverse and there it is, no thinking required. Built-in navigation and heated seats or windscreens fall into the same bracket. None of these need explaining twice. They solve an obvious problem the second you use them, so people use them.

The stuff sitting there unused

Driving modes are one of the most overlooked. Most cars let you switch between Eco, Normal and Sport, and it's not just a badge on the dash, it genuinely changes how the car feels to drive. Eco softens the throttle response and can improve fuel economy on a long run, Sport sharpens everything up if you fancy a livelier drive. Most people never touch the setting after day one.

Blind-spot monitoring and 360-degree cameras are another pair worth knowing about. If reversing into a tight space or pulling out past a hedge on a country road makes you nervous, there's a good chance your car already has something built in to help. It's easy to miss if nobody's pointed it out.

App-based remote start is the one that tends to get the best reaction once people realise it exists. Start the car from your phone before you've even left the house, so it's warmed up and the windscreen's clear by the time you get out the door. It's a genuinely handy bit of tech that a lot of owners don't know they have.

Wireless phone charging rounds it off. Small thing, but if you're still hunting for a cable every morning and your car's had a wireless pad the whole time, that's an easy win.

Why it's worth a second look

None of this is about ticking off a spec sheet for the sake of it. It's the small stuff that makes a drive easier day to day, one less cable to find, one less nervous three-point turn, one warm car on a cold morning. Most of it's already sitting in the car you're driving right now. It just takes someone showing you where it is.
