Get Your Car Halloween-Ready

Halloween brings tricks, treats, and scary (or not-so-scary) fun, and who says that needs to stop in the car? There are no boundaries during this ghoulish time and we are here to help you find ways to celebrate, even in the car! There are several ways to celebrate Halloween whilst on the road, turning a boring journey into an unforgettable and enjoyable experience for the whole family. In this blog post, expect a variety of tricks, treats, and other Halloween-related things to do in the car.

The key to any successful road trip is a killer playlist, and this is no different at Halloween. Put together a spine-tingling playlist filled with spooky tunes and Halloween theme songs then crank up the volume and let the music set the mood for your spooky adventure. Here’s some thrilling tunes to help you get started:

Nothing gets those goosebumps going more than eerie stories, and the car is one of the best spaces to listen to one! Bring along a collection of Halloween-themed books*, listen to spooky audiobooks, or even make up your own and take turns to share.

Carving pumpkins is obviously a messy and fun Halloween tradition, and we know this is not doable in the car... unless you're happy with pumpkin insides all over your car. There is a less messy-car-friendly alternative! Download a pumpkin carving app on a smartphone or tablet or go old school and draw pumpkin designs then vote on the spookiest or silliest one!

Driving can be boring, so why not add a bit of excitement? Get your Halloween costumes on before getting in the car and assign a judge to select the winner, or if you're confident enough, ask people on your pit stops… Just watch out for ghouls and goblins along the way! Even if you feel silly, you’ll have a laugh being dressed ridiculously in the car.

Challenge your passengers' knowledge with a Halloween trivia game. Prepare a list of Halloween-related questions, and whoever answers the most correctly wins a prize (or bragging rights). Questions can range from the origins of Halloween to fun facts about sweets and traditions, or you can even throw some personal ones in like "what did I dress up as last year?". Here are some to get you started.

Prepare a Halloween Bingo card that passengers can complete from the car. Create a list of items, costumes, or decorations to spot such as witches, ghosts, pumpkins, or haunted houses and the first to spot all the things on their Bingo card wins a spooky prize (or bragging rights)! Make it easier by playing as a team, and trying to spot everything on the list or make some up yourself, relative to your location. 

Halloween isn’t Halloween without treats! Pack a bag of treats and sweeties to snack on in the car… This is an overall crowd-pleaser.

Bonus points if they are creepy like brains or snakes, not just your regular run of the mill treat bag - c'mon, bit of creativity!

Is decorating your car for Halloween a step too far? We don’t think so! It can be a fun and creative way to join in the spooky festivities if you are stuck in the car. Here are some ways to make your car more Halloween-y!

First things first, wash and clean your car!!! We don’t want any real cobwebs in there so give the interior and exterior of your car to provide a clean canvas for you to go crazy! Plus, once you take them down, you’ll have a nice clean car to drive in.

Always remember to prioritise safety when decorating your car for Halloween: ensure all items are securely attached to your vehicle and make sure that decorations don’t obstruct your vision or distract you or other drivers on the road.
