There is NO MOT grace period!

Many drivers think there is a grace period allowed on a vehicle once your MOT has expired but this is not the case. An MOT lasts for one year and the date it expires is printed on your current certificate. You can also check this date online. After this date has passed you are not allowed to drive your car on the roads and if caught, could land yourself with a fine. You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.

The only exceptions are to drive it:

• to or from somewhere to be repaired
• to a pre-arranged MOT test

 BE AWARE: Even in the above circumstances you may still be prosecuted for driving an unroadworthy vehicle if it doesn’t meet various regulations affecting its construction and use. If you are stopped by the police, you must be able to show proof that you have an appointment booked at either a test centre or repair centre.
